The Consuming Life part three

THE CONSUMING LIFE part three

"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends". John 15:13

Isn’t that beautiful?

I think that but I don’t want it. I mean in one final gasp televised where I get some glory sure, but on a daily ongoing basis to largely undeserving friends. Friends like Jesus had who don’t understand him, who will abandon him, who will deny and even betray him, heck no. I mean the idea is beautiful, the execution is, well, repellent. Oh I want to be that person deep and passionately on the inside, but the desire to be seen at that person is too often equally compelling.

Now Timothy has just returned, bringing the good news that your faith and love are as strong as ever. He reports that you remember our visit with joy and that you want to see us just as much as we want to see you. 1 Th 3:6 (NLT)

One of the toughest things in my psycho-social (read emotional - relational) life is knowing where I stand with people. It seems sometimes people just drift to another place, flip to a new side, or become consumed by something or someone else. It can be perplexing, it can be infuriating, depending on my momentary disposition it can be crushing.

Don's Story

Quite a few years ago I was single and living in Pittsburg.  I had bought my first house and money was very, very tight.  It was quite often that the "ends didn't meet".

A couple in my neighborhood had several times invited me to their church.  At the time I wasn't going to church, and I didn't have a relationship with God, and had never known Jesus in a personal way.  BTW - the wife of the couple that invited me to their church, is a first grade teacher here at Valhalla.  Her name is Mrs. Roberts.  Her classroom is right over there.
